Ski Season Opens - Hintertux, Ziller Valley Austria

The ski season opened last week with fantastic conditions on the Hintertux Glacier. Hochfugen has been opening on the weekends and will continue until the beginning of December when they will open full time.
The British Disabled ski team are here this week and they are enjoying almost perfect condition with around one meter of fresh snow last week and clear blue skies this week.

Hochfugen opens on the 24th October!

The ski season has begun already in Hochfugen, where they have had over a meter of snow, allowing them to groom the pistes and officially open the resort for skiing. Hochfugen will only open over the weekends between now and December though, as there are not enough people buying lift tickets to keep the lifts running during the week. The locals are having a great time getting some skiing in at the weekends while the runs are still quiet.

Cows Homecoming Festival in September

The very popular "Almabtrieb" festival takes place at the end of September every year. The cows that have been on the high alpine summer pastures come back down into the village ready for the winter. Fuegen village was very busy, as hundreds of tourists drank beer and were entertained by yodelling, alpine horn-blowing leather shorts cladded men as they waited for the cows to arrive. Great fun!

BASI Summer Courses, Thank you!

Many thanks to those BASI members recently attending courses in Hintertux who handed back their lift passes. Each pass has a €2 deposit. The money collected will go towards buying adaptive ski equipment for the Redpoint Adaptive Programme.

Family Rafting Holiday - Austria

We had a great time on the family rafting yesterday. The weather has just cleared and the water was nice and fresh after the recent snow fall up higher. It was nice to be back on the water after a long break in the office.

BASI Summer Instructor Courses, Hintertux

BASI are back in Hintertux for their Summer Courses. The weeks have been interesting weatherwise with a good mix of snow, rain, thunder and sunshine. The glacier is looking remarkably white for August... And the sunshine over the past couple of days is keeping everyone smiling.

Here is Ross's learn to ski group just about to go for the lift. The pistes have been very quiet this week with great spring skiing. The whole week has been blue skies a real treat after so much snow all winter.
