Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 5

After the previous day's hectic schedule, with Sara cracking the whip, the shellshocked group were surprised to be offered a lunch stop at Eggalm, overlooking the Hintertux Glacier, where they had just completed all the runs that morning. You can see the appreciation in their faces! Having cleared up the rest of the valley, the final day's plan is to return to Hochfugen and Kaltenbach and complete the runs that they missed earlier in the week. Then finish the day locally at Spieljoch.

Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 5

Thursday was Hintertux and Eggalm Day. The bad weather came through during the night and it was a bit of a risk to go to the Glacier on a "bad weather" day. But with Sara's experience in Hintertux, she decided to go for it and after 3 very slow runs in the fog the weather cleared and they had a fantastic day.

Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 4

The teams where in Krimml - Heizenberg and Ahorn today. With the bad weather at the beginning of the week the groups where behind on the schedule of runs they needed to get all of the pistes in the valley skied before Saturday. Little did they know that Sara and Steve had devised a way of catching up! They all noticed when (rumour has it!) Sara was refusing toilet and coffee stops and skiing straight of the top of the lifts to the next runs. They pushed hard all day and made it to the Ahorn lift with 10 minutes to spare. The photo shows the guys skiing in Ahorn, Which was a extra catch up area today.

Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 3

The guys demanded to be taken to Thomases when we picked them up in Mayrhofen so of course their wishes where obeyed. They deserved a relaxing drink after one of the biggest days of the challenge. Tomorrow the groups returning to Krimml to complete the Zillertal Arena. The plan is to try and catch up some of the lost ground from the first day today and ski the Ahorn in Mayrhofen today as well. They are going to have to motor!
The weather is changing today with the predicted cold front coming in this afternoon, we are hoping that it will be past by tomorrow. See how they got on tonight.

Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 2

Here are the groups back together overlooking Krimml which they will be skiing in the next couple of days. They all looked a bit tiered tonight but seemed relieved to have made it over to Gerlos!
They are off to Mayrhofen so another big day but with the forecast looking good they should enjoy more blue skies and great piste conditions. The forecast for Thursday is not looking so good but we will have to see. Keep checking for the latest updates

Liz and Hugh having a deserved sit down in Zell on the second day of the challenge. The teams had a big day in Zell and Gerlos today. They managed to knock out a lot of the runs which will make the day they return to krimml easier. As you can see the weather was perfect today and it looks like it will continue tomorrow.

Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 1

Obviously thought they had enough time for a break in the Crystal Hut at the top in Kaltenbach. Rumour has it they even stopped for lunch later. With the connection to Hochfugen closed it meant skiing to the bottom and driving around to Hochfugen. When they left there was allot open in Hochfugen, when they got there allot had closed. They skied the runs they could and came home. Missing so many runs on the first day is a real setback with so much skiing still to do. The weather for most of the week looks good so they should catch up some ground in the next days. Monday the group are off to Zell am Ziller and Gerlos. They left this morning at 8am with blue sky. Check back for more info on how they got on.

Ski Challenge 2008 - Day 1

We started the ski challenge for January 2008 on Sunday. 16 brave guests have signed up to ski all the pistes in the valley in the next 6 days. We started in kaltenbach with the in tension to ski all 155km of pistes in Kaltenbach and Hochfugen.
Unfortunately the weather had different ideas most of the valley was closed due to high winds (120km/hr!) we where lucky as most of Kaltenbach was open.
